Also known as the resurrection plant, or dinosaur plant - the rose of Jericho is a plant with a pretty cool back story.
The rose of Jericho typically grows in dry desert climates, where it has adapted to survive. It can manage without water for years at a time. It curls in, forming a little ball of dry foliage and waits and protects itself until the rain comes. It will roll around the desert, opening its fronds when the conditions improve and theres some moisture to drink in.
Some believe that it has magical qualities - that it will bring you good fortune if you add five coins to the water you use to make it unfurl. After the plant has been in the water for a few days, brush the water onto windows and doors to let prosperity in.
To care for it, sit it in a bowl of water for around four hours. Don’t leave it in the water for more than a few days, as it will rot. Change the water daily, and give it breaks without water. You can also treat it like an air plant (or epiphyte), misting it from time to time and displaying it on pebbles or on the stem of another plant.
